Sinopsis:
Hampir semua partisipan pernah mendengar istilah “kekerasan seksual”, 171 partisipan (97,7 %).
Book Synopsis:
National Commission on Violence against Women (Komnas Perempuan) in a press release on October 27, 2020, stated that Islamic boarding schools are the second educational institution where sexual violence occurs most often (19%) after universities (27%). The Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) recently disclosed information about sexual violence at Islamic boarding schools. Throughout 2017–2019, cases of child violence occurring in Islamic boarding schools were quite high, although not all were reported.
Based on these data, in 2021, Umah Ramah and the National Organization of Asians and Pacific Islanders Ending Sexual Violence (NAPIESV) conducted a survey involving 175 Islamic boarding school alumni in Java. Almost all participants had heard the term “sexual violence”, 171 participants (97.7%).
The survey also asked participants whether they had ever seen or heard of incidents of sexual violence occurring in the Islamic boarding school environment and affecting their friends/other people around them. A total of 103 participants answered “ever” (58.9%), while the remaining 72 participants (41.1%) answered “never”. These figures confirm that other data is no different from the trend of increasing numbers of cases reported by the mass media.
Sexual violence is not a unique problem that only occurs in Islamic boarding schools; it happens everywhere. However, there are particular forms and causes of sexual violence in Islamic boarding schools. Why does sexual violence occur in Islamic boarding schools? Why is sexual violence often misunderstood as mere rape? What are the sources of knowledge about sexuality and sexual violence in Islamic boarding schools? And why does the public turn “fiercer” when sexual violence occurs in Islamic boarding schools?
This book, which is the result of further research carried out in 2022, provides answers to these questions. Furthermore, this book examines how sexual violence, sexuality, Islamic boarding school knowledge, and morality are not distinct from one another but rather intersect.
